About Pen & Peace
Meet NimiChauhan.
- Mediator
- Conflict Coach
- Writer
- Community Advocate
For more than two decades, Nimi has worked alongside individuals, families, and communities navigating some of life's most difficult experiences.

Her work
Listening for what lies beneath the conflict.
Her career has focused on issues including domestic violence, sexual assault, suicide prevention, addiction, youth violence, and community safety, giving her a unique understanding of conflict, trauma, resilience, and human behaviour.
As a mediator and conflict resolution specialist, Nimi believes that beneath most conflict lies something deeper: a need to be heard, understood, respected, or healed. Her work is grounded in empathy, curiosity, and the belief that even the most challenging conversations can create opportunities for growth and transformation.
Currently serving within the provincial government of British Columbia, Nimi brings a trauma-informed and culturally responsive approach to mediation and conflict coaching. She helps individuals, families, workplaces, and organizations navigate difficult conversations with greater clarity, confidence, and compassion.
In Nimi's words
“I've spent 20 years helping people through conflict, and I also understand the power of love, story, healing, and human connection.”
Why Pen & Peace
Where dialogue and storytelling meet.
But Pen & Peace was born from more than professional experience.
Throughout her life and career, Nimi has witnessed the profound impact of both conflict and connection. She has seen how words can wound, but also how they can heal. She has watched relationships break down through misunderstanding and silence, and she has seen them rebuilt through honesty, courage, and meaningful dialogue.
This understanding led her to expand her work beyond mediation and into storytelling.
Through Pen & Peace, Nimi also offers love-story writing, legacy storytelling, and personal narrative services that capture the moments, memories, and relationships that shape our lives. Whether documenting a couple's journey, preserving a family's history, or helping someone tell a story that deserves to be remembered, she believes that stories have the power to connect us to one another and to ourselves.
At its heart
Every person has a story, and every story matters.
Some stories need resolution.
Some stories need healing.
Some stories deserve to be celebrated.
Through mediation, coaching, and writing, Nimi helps people move forward with greater understanding, deeper connection, and a renewed sense of possibility.
Advocacy & community
A life rooted in service.
Nimi is also the founder of Sahara Services and the #NotMySecret movement, initiatives dedicated to supporting survivors of violence and abuse through advocacy, education, and community engagement.
She has served on numerous boards and advisory committees focused on community policing, restorative justice, addictions and recovery, youth violence prevention, and civic engagement. In addition to her professional work, she is a published writer, speaker, moderator, and passionate advocate for building stronger, more compassionate communities.
“I have always believed that people are more than the hardest thing they've experienced.”
Whether I am helping someone navigate conflict, preserve a cherished memory, or tell a story that deserves to be remembered, my hope is that every person leaves feeling heard, respected, and understood.
Thank you for being here.Nimi
